What is balayage?

Balayage is a special technique that only the best stylists practice well. Balayage is a French word meaning “to sweep” and is a process of highlighting hair to look more natural. Much like an artist painting on canvas, stylists use a “sweeping” motion to paint highlights on the hair, thus giving them the ability to better control the application. This technique allows for better outgrowth, much more color contrast within the hair, and less damage to the hair.

Balayage is more carefree than other ways to apply highlights because the streaks are not as defined and a pattern is not developed. The result of balayage is various subtle shades of blond and honey-tones hues that look more like they came from spending time in the sun.
